Production and sale of typical Piedmontese wines: Barbera, Calosso, Moscato, Dolcetto, Cortese, Chardonnay, Rosato, Passiti, Vermouth and Spirits
We think this way.
We think about a wine made for a good life, at best, in life and on the tables of everybody.
Barbera, Dolcetto, Cortese, Moscato, Chardonnay, Calosso our Spirits, everything is art for us, good will, devotion, choice of wonderful grapes, to have a wonderful result.
Oh yes, oh wine, we love you!!
The La Badia winery located in the municipality of Calosso, can be reached along the scenic roads of the Langa Astigiana, where vineyards mainly cultivated with Moscato and Barbera alternate with other types of crops and wooded areas.
The owners, the brothers Giuseppe and Marco Bussi, welcome guests directly, leading them to discover the territory and the products that have allowed the company to receive numerous awards and recommendations in important guides and magazines in the sector.
In the cellar the knowledge and familiarity in wine production is not lacking.
In fact, the Bussi brothers entered the world of winemaking in the mid-1980s by working with Moscato grapes when it was common practice for most young producers to learn with Barbera grapes.
Barbera wine demonstrates better resistance to wine-making stress and consequently can better tolerate even the errors dictated by an initial inexperience.
It is therefore no coincidence, today, that the flagship wines of the production are precisely Moscato d’Asti DOCG and Barbera d’Asti DOCG.
The name "Badia" probably refers to an active monastic community in the vicinity of which today no traces have been lost.
The same term also indicates the name of wild cliffs, the Badie located not far from the farmhouse.
The history of the winery begins in the 1900s. Grandfather Felice already produced a modest quantity of Moscato wine intended for bulk sale.
The current location, a typical Piedmontese court, is the same as it was originally, a large building once shared between five families.
Here the great-grandfather of Giuseppe and Marco came as a servant, receiving it as an inheritance following his marriage to the owner's daughter.
Since 1987 the current owners have resumed their grandfather's business, becoming wine growers according to modern standards.
The production process is entirely followed by the family.
In the cellar it is in fact possible to meet the owners with their parents, Aldo and Lidia, Marco's wife, Maria and their son Luca.
This hilly area, a well-preserved natural environment, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers optimal living conditions, which our ancestors have preserved for us.
The company has been implementing environmentally compatible vine cultivation systems for years, in full respect of nature and man as it is part of an agro-environmental program that makes use of integrated production methods.

The Barbera grapes are grown on the slope that from Calosso faces Agliano Terme, the clayey and heavier soil is particularly suitable for the cultivation of this vine.
Alongside the more recent plants, vineyards resulting from various acquisitions in previous decades alternate with vines over 40 years old.
Barbera d'Asti DOCG is produced in different labels and types:
Calosso DOC is vinified from one of the oldest and rarest indigenous Piedmontese vines, Gamba Rossa, better known locally as Gamba di Pernice.
Always present in this small part of the Asti area, it risked extinction before being rediscovered and enhanced.
It has a ruby red color and spicy and balsamic notes reminiscent of green pepper and withstands an aging of
10-15 years.
Moscato DOCG represents the first love regarding the grape processing process which, although it takes place quickly, needs care and attention.
To best express their potential, the grapes obtained from the Moscato vine need a sandy calcareous soil, well present in the Castiglione Tinella area.
The resulting product is a fragrant, harmonious wine with an intense bouquet with perception of notes of cedar, wildflowers and acacia.
